Layers of love for pennies on a dime

I’m sure you are asking yourself what the heck is she talking about, layers of love for pennies. Well let me tell you as a baker laminated dough is the way to my heart. The layers, layers I can only express as layers of love, joy and happiness all delicately rolled into a beautiful display of flaky goodness.

Now don’t get me wrong, making croissants is no easy task. I spent a week in San Francisco last summer immersing myself in the art of laminated dough. I spent 8 hours a day just scratching the surface of laminate dough, including brioche, danish and croissant. Upon completion of my course I can say with confidence that I am pretty darn good at making these delicious treats as well although I still plan to learn more. However, this post isn’t about learning to make croissants.

Instead this is a post about where and how you are can get these same quality croissants at home in under one hour and hot out the oven. Let me say this one more time for those in the back that didn’t hear me.

Get fresh baked bakery quality croissant out the oven and into your mouth in less than 60 min.

So a few days ago I was at Whole Foods looking for a treat to take to my book club get together when I turned and found the holly grail of bake goods nestled in the a small freezer just waiting for me. I can only assume with the uncertainty that is Covid-19 they just aren’t getting the amount of customers in purchasing baked goods so they decided to sell frozen taken and bake items and what better item than the glorious croissant. Yup, you heard me, they are sell bakery size/style croissants frozen at Whole Food for pennies. You can purchase large sandwich style croissants 4 for $6.00 or 12 mini chocolate croissants for $6.00 take them home leave them out for about 30 min to thaw, then bake for about 20 -25 min and you have fresh baked croissants just like that. Now the instructions say bake at 335 for 18 - 20 min but that was a no go for me. I baked mine at 375 until golden brown about 25 min and they were perfect. Now they may have been a slight bit frozen still in the center but the key is to bake until they are golden brown in your oven.

When I tell you these croissants are the best pre-made I have ever had…I’m almost shame to say they may become a staple in my freezer. Below are a few pics I took of the batches I purchases
